Monarch Holidays (formally, Cosmos Holidays) is a UK independent tour operator, which provides package holidays, flight-only and accommodation products to UK customers. The tour operator is an owned subsidiary of Monarch Holdings Ltd, formerly owned by Globus Travel Group, it was sold to Greybull Capital in October 2014.〔http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/10/25/uk-monarch-m-a-greybull-idUKKCN0IE09N20141025〕 Cosmos Holidays was originally founded in 1961 as Cosmos Tours. In later became Cosmos Holidays in 1987. Cosmos Holidays had been in operation for over 50 years, and provides a choice of holidays from ten UK airports to 60 worldwide destinations. Annually 850,000 return passengers within the mass market sector buy a holiday from Cosmos Holidays and Monarch's holiday brands. In 2015, the company was renamed Monarch Holidays. ==Background== The tour operator is an owned subsidiary of Monarch Holdings Ltd, formerly owned by Globus Travel Group, and sold to Greybull Capital in October 2014.〔 The group has a number of other subsidiaries including Monarch Airlines, Monarch Aircraft Engineering,Avro is a flight only company started by Paul Dendle on the 01st of July 1984, it's offices were based at London House, Upper Richmond Road West, it then moved to offices in Haydons Road, Wimbledon, London SW19. Avro was taken over by the Globus group which owned Monarch Airlines, Cosmos Holidays and Archer Tours. Paul Dendle retained 20% of the company, it was the biggest flight only company in the UK flying 1.4 million passengers, it flew over 50% of Gatwicks departures back in 1993-4. Paul Dendle left the company in December 1994, remaining on garden leave until May 1995. Avro and somewhere2stay. Monarch Holdings was 100%-owned by the Globus Travel Group.
